Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic Junior Show drew 410 entries from every
corner of the state of Nebraska. Randy Daniels, from Calvert, GA judged
the 232 prospect market animals and Barry Wessner, of Chalmers, IN
judged the 178 prospect breeding heifers. Kirk Stierwalt of Leddy, OK
selected the top showman.

Sales were sizzling on Saturday at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic.
The Grand Champion Maine Anjou Bull was awarded to Lot 27, consigned
by Jack Stoltz of Elgin, NE. The bull sold for $20,500 being the highest
selling bull, to Huck and Roemer of Healy, KS. The Reserve Champion
Maine Anjou bull was awarded to Lot 7, consigned by Dick Parrott of
Lincoln, NE. The bull sold for $5,000 to Dennis Black of Satanta, KS.
The Grand Champion Maine Anjou Heifer was awarded to Lot 51, consigned
by Mitch Daake of Kearney, NE. This heifer sold for $8,000 being the
highest selling heifer, to Kelsey Rutt of Minden, NE. The Reserve
Champion Maine Anjou Heifer was awarded to Lot 40, consigned by Nate
Vollertsen of Syracuse, NE. This heifer sold for $4,000 to Jon Herrick
of Miller, NE. The average for the Maine Anjou sale was $2,538 and the
gross total was $134,525.
The Grand Champion Chimaine Bull was awarded to Lot 23, consigned by
Jerry and Dee Adamson of Cody, NE. The bull was sold for $12,500 being
the highest selling bull, to Randy Schuring of Andover, SD. The Reserve
Champion Chimaine Bull was awarded to Lot 8, consigned by Mark Johnson
of Maurice, IA. This bull was sold for $7,500 to Randy Schuring of
Andover, SD. The Grand Champion Chimaine Heifer was awarded to Lot 30,
consigned by Kevin and Jodie Palmer of Norfolk, NE. This heifer was sold
for $8,600 being the highest selling heifer, to Tim Weber of Tecumseh,
NE. The Reserve Champion Chimaine Heifer was awarded to Lot 40,
consigned by Jerry and Dee Adamson of Cody, NE. This heifer sold for
$2,450 to Lorren Van Order of Hamilton, MI. The average for the Chimaine
sale was $2,992 and the gross total was $103,225.
The Grand Champion Chiangus Bull was awarded to Lot 4, consigned by
Terry Tonniges of Gresham, NE. The bull was sold for $27,500 being the
highest selling bull, to Power Ball Group. The Reserve Champion Chiangus
Bull was awarded to Lot 7, consigned by Brad Stoppel of Russel, KS. This
bull sold for $5,000 to Roger Deiter of Faulkton, SD. The Grand Champion
Chiangus Heifer was awarded to Lot 14, consigned by Steve Melroe of
Gwinner, ND. This heifer was sold for $12,500 being the highest selling
heifer, to Rodney Harman of Applington, IA. The Reserve Champion
Chiangus Heifer was awarded to Lot 13, consigned by David and Jody
Foster of Lockney, TX. This heifer sold for $4,100 to Lush Farms & K-Kim
Inc. of Overland Park, KS. The average for the Chiangus sale was $5,577
and the gross total was $72,500.
The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic set a new all time sale gross record
during the week long sales of $1,315,500.
The 14th Annual Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classis had its smok’in finale
Saturday night with the selection of Supreme Champion Bull and Heifer. A
panel of 3 cattlemen had the honor to select the 2005 Champions; Dale
Spencer of Brewster, NE, Barry Wessner, Chalmers, IN, Bill Conley,
Clarksdale, MO. The 2005 Supreme Champion Bull was the Champion Maine
Anjou Bull consigned by Jack Stoltz of Elgin, NE, sold to Huck & Roemer
of Healy, KS The 2005 Supreme Champion Heifer was the Champion Angus
Heifer that was consigned by Fred’s Angus, Rose NE, sold to Lush Farms,
Overland Park, KS.

Friday, February 18th, 2005 Fire
was burning in the barn on Friday as the crowds gathered for the
sizzling competition. The Grand Champion Limousin Bull was awarded to
Lot 17X, consigned by Carrousel Farms of Mineral Point, WI. This bull
sold for $3,200 to Marvin Jensen from Broken Bow, NE. The Reserve
Champion Limousin Bull was awarded to Lot 1, consigned by Ron Schilling
of Edson, KS. This bull sold for $4,600 to Doug Hall from Goodland, KS.
The high selling bull of the sale was Lot 21 consigned by Charles Hunt
from Oxford, NE. He sold for $4,600 to Behrends Family Limousin of
Lincoln, NE. The Grand Champion Limousin Heifer was awarded to Lot 25,
consigned by Roger Vorthmann of McClelland, IA. This heifer sold for
$2,200 being the high selling heifer, to Kurt Wolff from Mervell, IA.
The Reserve Champion Limousin Heifer was awarded to Lot 24, consigned by
Jim and Kennetha Amos of Stapleton, NE. The heifer sold for $2,000 to
Dwight Comer from Hordville, NE. The average of the Limousin sale was
$2,328 and the gross total was $50,050.
The Grand Champion Bull of the 1st National Balancer show was awarded
to Lot 5 , consigned by J.J. Boehler of Orleans, NE. The bull sold for
$6,900 being the highest selling bull, to Scott Starr from Stapleton,
NE. The Reserve Champion Bull of the 1st National Balancer show was
awarded to Lot 3, consigned by Steve Munger of Highmore, SD. The bull
sold for $4,000 to Dave Palmer from Warmer, SD. The Grand Champion
Heifer of the Balancer show was awarded to Lot 21, consigned by Steve
Munger of Highmore, SD. This heifer sold for $3,250 to Jumping Cow
Cattle Co. of LaJuanta, CO. The Reserve Champion of the Balancer show
was awarded to Lot 28, consigned by Jeff Pope of Ravenna, NE. This
heifer sold for $3,400 to Mike Campbell from Neberry, IN being the high
selling heifer of the sale. The average of the Balancer sale was $2,844
and the gross total was $68,250.
The Grand Champion Gelbvieh Bull was awarded to Lot 1, consigned by
Rodney & Brad Barwick of Orleans, NE. This bull sold for $3,400 being
the high selling bull, to Bruce Bartos from Hastings, NE. The Reserve
Champion Gelbvieh Bull was awarded to Lot 10, consigned by Tom Murphy of
Franklin, NE. This bull sold for $3,750 to Josh Faimon from Lawrence,
NE. The Grand Champion Gelbvieh Heifer was awarded to Lot 16, consigned
by Randy Kleinschimdt of Grafton, NE. This heifer sold for $2,900 being
the high selling heifer, to Grant Thayer from Ramah, CO. The Reserve
Champion Gelbvieh Heifer was awarded to Lot 19, consigned by Jeff Pope
of Ravenna, NE. This heifer sold for $1,550 to Brent Overmiller from
Smith Center, KS. The average for the Gelbvieh sale was $2,244 and the
gross total was $35,900.
The Grand Champion Shorthorn Bull was awarded to Lot 8, consigned by
Nate Kolterman of Seward, NE. This bull sold for $2,500 to Kevin Gabriel
from Arcadia, NE. The Reserve Champion Shorthorn Bull was awarded to Lot
19, consigned by Ward Bakenhus of Columbus, NE. This bull sold for
$5,300 being the high selling bull, to Robert Meyer from Louisville, NE.
The Grand Champion Shorthorn Heifer was awarded to Lot 23 and consigned
by Craig Gana & Anthony Nisley from Martell, NE. This heifer sold for
$12,000 being the high selling heifer, to Doug Shepherd from West
Chester, OH. The Reserve Champion Shorthorn Heifer was awarded to Lot
30, consigned by Bill and Chad Schomberg from Pierce, NE. This heifer
sold for $ 3,500 to Rock Ridge Cattle Co. from Sterling, NE. The average
of the Shorthorn sale was $2,507 and the gross total was $75,200.
The Pen of Five Replacement Heifer sale finished the day off. The
sale started with Lot 22 consigned by Ralph Pilkington from Albion, NE.
The pen sold for $14,750, being the high selling pen to Ron Bernhardt
from Greely, CO. The Reserve Champion was Lot 12 consigned by Dennis
Koepke from Hoskins, NE. The pen sold for $6,250 to Gina and Eric
Schaffert from Aurora, NE. The gross total for the sale was $162,450.
The average for pens was $6,769, the average per head was $1,353.
The Classic will wrap up the week’s sales on Saturday with the Maine
Anjou, National Chimaine, and the Chiangus show and sales. The Grand
Finale for the Open Show and Sale cattle is on Saturday evening at 7:00
p.m. The Grand Finale is sponsored by Genex, Merial and Good Samaritan
Hospital. The 14 Breed Champion Bulls and Heifers will be competing for
the Supreme Title. The Classic will wrap up on Sunday with the Junior
Show. The Classic organizers are expecting over 500 entries from every
corner of the state of Nebraska.

Thursday’s crowds were in the thousands as the Classic held its third
day of sales. Another tremendous day of events has passed at the
Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic. With a large crowd at the Buffalo County
Fairgrounds, a busy day with four cattle shows and sales along with
several events that Good Samaritan Hospital was sponsoring occurred..
The morning started out with the Angus show. The Grand Champion Angus
Bull was awarded to Lot 35 consigned by Charles and Linda Pohlman of
Norfolk, NE. This bull sold for $8,100 being the high selling bull, to
Jim Maas from Pierce, NE. The Reserve Champion Angus Bull was awarded to
Lot 32 and consigned by Stewart and Peggy Hartwell of Oakland, NE. This
bull sold for $4,500 to Loy Glause from Palmer, NE. The Grand Champion
Angus Heifer was awarded to Lot 65 and consigned by Jamie and Kay Fred
of Rose, NE. This heifer sold for $6,000, being the high selling heifer,
to Lush Farms from Overland Park, KS. The Reserve Champion Heifer was
awarded to Lot 72 and consigned by Kent and Lisa Nelson of Crete, NE.
This heifer was sold for $2,750 to Cody Chrisman from McCool Junction,
NE. The average of the sale was $3,128 and the gross total was $188,200.
The Grand Champion Simmental Bull was awarded to Lot 3 and consigned
by Alan Forster of Smithfield, NE. This bull sold for $4,000 being the
high selling bull, to Dan Kuszak from St. Paul, NE. The Reserve Champion
Bull was awarded to Lot 18X and consigned by James Felt of Wakefield,
NE. This bull sold for $2,600 to Larry Paitz from Pleasanton, NE. The
Grand Champion Simmental Heifer was awarded to Lot 46 and consigned by

Snider from Lexington, NE. The Reserve Champion Simmental Heifer was

The Grand Champion Charolais Bull was awarded to Lot 11 and consigned
by Tom Sonderup from Fullerton, NE. This bull sold for $3,100 to Jeff
Wulf from Guide Rock, NE. The Reserve Champion Charolais Bull was
awarded to Lot 12 and consigned by Roseann Wilson from Loup City, NE.
This bull sold for $2,900 to Doug Sellers from Wellfleet, NE. The high
selling bull was Lot 1 consigned by Richard Endacott from Pleasant Dale,
NE for $3,200 to Michael Schmidt from Anselmo, NE. The Grand Champion
Charolais Heifer was awarded to Lot 18 and consigned by Roseann Wilson
from Loup City, NE. This heifer sold for $2,800 to Gary Ohlrichs from
Merrill, IA. The Reserve Champion Charolais Heifer was awarded to Lot
23, consigned by Roseann Wilson from Loup City, NE. This heifer sold for
$2,900 being the high selling heifer, to Dennis Breinig from Arapahoe,
NE. The average of the sale was $1,994 and the gross total was $49,350.
The Grand Champion Braunvieh Bull was awarded to Lot 5 consigned by
David Doeschot of Adams, NE. This bull sold for $1,450 to Mary Teter of
Bartley, NE. The Reserve Champion Braunvieh Bull was awarded to Lot 4
consigned by Kendall Schlake of Fairbury, NE. This bull sold for $1,900
to George McDonald of Cheyenne Wells, Co. The High Selling Bull was
consigned by Mark and Leland Nelson of Norfolk, NE. This bull sold for
$2,400 to George McDonald of Cheyenne Wells, Co. The Grand Champion
Braunvieh heifer was awarded to Lot 12 consigned by Kendall Schlake of
Fairbury, NE. This heifer sold for $1,450 to Mark Sorensen of Wayne, NE.
The Reserve Champion Braunvieh heifer was awarded to Lot 16, consigned
by Kendall Schlake of Fairbury, NE. This heifer was the high selling
heifer for $2,650 to Bob Brink of Lawrence, KS.
Good Samaritan Hospital sponsored many events including the AirCare
Helicopter that visited the fairgrounds, Child Safety Seats, and a
Roll-Over Demo. These events were a great attraction at the Classic….
the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic has grown into much more than just
cattle shows.

Wednesday, February 16, 2005 The
Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic first set of sales was “wild” on Wednesday
with the Hereford, Polled Hereford and Red Angus. The Hereford sale
averaged $2,671 on 36 lots. The Hereford high selling bull was lot 2
consigned by Jay and Cindy Brown of Junction City, KS. The bull sold for
$6,000 to Circle A Ranching Co., Burwell, NE. The Champion Hereford Bull
was lot 26 consigned by S.E.West & Sons of Lusk, WY. The bull sold for
$4,300 to Mader Farms of Jennings, KS. The Reserve Champion Hereford
Bull was lot 15. The Bull was consigned by JC Cattle Co., of Junction
City, KS. The bull sold for $3,800 to Paul Schipporeit of Sumner, NE.
The high selling heifer was lot 34 consigned by Ridder Hereford Ranch of
Callaway, NE. The heifer sold for $1,400 to Hartman Exotics of Kearney.
The Champion Hereford Heifer was lot 29 consigned by Larry Stangle of
Marsland, NE. The heifer sold for $1,300 to Nieveen Hereford Farm of
Adams, NE. The Reserve Champion Heifer was consigned by Jim Lambert of
Chadron, NE. The Heifer sold for $1,250 to Roy Lambert of Chadron, NE.
The Polled Hereford sale averaged $2,222 on 38 lots. The Champion
Polled Hereford Bull was lot 29, consigned by Randy Helms of Holbrook,
NE. The Bull sold for $3,700 to Scott Starr of Stapleton, NE. The Polled
Hereford high selling bull was lot 11 and was also rewarded Reserve
Champion Bull. This bull was consigned by Jack Beeson from Wayne, NE and
sold for $4,500 to Lori Repenning of Mitchell, SD. The Champion Polled
Hereford Heifer was consigned by Russ Tegtmeier of Burchard, NE and was
high selling Heifer at $2,950. She was sold to Matt McCarty of Rock
Rapids, IA. The Reserve Champion Heifer was consigned by Doug Bolte of
Wayne, NE and sold for $1,550 to Kevin Rasmussen of Newman Grove, NE.
The Red Angus sale averaged $2,388 on 27 lots. The high selling
Champion Bull was consigned by Scott Prill of Holdrege, NE and sold for
$4,000 to Brad Arrowsmith of Bassett, NE. The Reserve Champion Bull was
consigned by Roseann Wilson of Loup City, NE and sold for $2,500 to Mike
Bandel of St. Francis, KS. The Grand Champion Heifer was consigned by
John Widdowson of Lodgepole, NE and sold for a high selling $10,000.
This heifer was sold to Taylor Adamson of Cody, NE. The Reserve Champion
Heifer was consigned by John Widdowson of Lodgepole, NE and sold for
$2,600 to Donny Ivey of Crane, TX.
The Red Angus Sale offered the Campus Life Organization a unique
opportunity. Cattlemen for Campus Life, a group of cattlemen, gathered
$25,000 and purchased the Champion Red Angus Female and then donated the
Champion Heifer back to be sold. Classic organizers were excited to be
apart of such a unique opportunity for the Campus Life Organization.

Tuesday, February 15, 2005 The
Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic kicked off the 15th Annual addition with
several new events for the show. The 1st Annual Working Dog Trials and
Sale drew a standing room only crowd of spectators. The 6 registered
Border Collie dogs were competing for $1,000 cash award and Supreme
Classic Dog Title. The cash award was sponsored by Cottonwood Vet Clinic
of Kearney, and Novartis Animal Health. The high selling dog was lot 3
consigned by Owen and Amanda Seamann of Spalding, Nebraska. “Tic” was
sold for $3,000 to Mick Jameson of Axtell, Nebraska. Dog Sale
Average – 6 dogs at $1,733
The Ranch Horse Competition was also featured on Tuesday at the
Classic. The 15 Ranch Horses were competing for the $1,000 cash award
sponsored by Merial Animal Health and the Supreme Classic title. The
title was awarded to lot 9 consigned by Daniel Oppliger of Silver Creek,
Nebraska. “Doc’s Blonde Bar” sold for $4,300 to Steve Chatterton of
Huntington, West Virginia. The high selling horse was lot 15 consigned
Adam Sawyer of Bassett, Nebraska. The horse sold for $6,000 to Donald
Wadell of Lincoln, Nebraska. Ranch Horse Sale Average – 15 horses
at $3,026
The other new addition to the Classic events was the Beef Academy.
The Academy started with a panel discussion of Packers. Representatives
from Excel and Swift were present to discuss COOL and Source
Verification. Warren Mirtsching, Vice President of Quality Assurance and
Food Safety represented Swift and Marcine Moldenhauer, Supply Chain
Manager for Excel represented Excel. Following the Panel Discussion
representatives from USDA discussed BSE and Electronic Identification.
Larry Cooper, USDA APHIS, Western Public Affairs Specialist, answered
questions on the National animal ID system and disease issues. Kathleen
Jan Akins, DVM specialist for the USDA APHIS veterinary services,
discussed disease issues. She has worked on important policies regarding
BSE.
The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic will kickoff the first shows and
sales of the 14 Cattle Breeds that are represented at the Classic. The
Herefords, Polled Herefords, and Red Angus will show and sell on
Wednesday, February 16th.
